Experimental Testing and Validation
OTS’ in-house laboratory enables performance measurement and validation for residential and light-commercial systems and components.

Our 8,000 square foot laboratory includes multiple environmental chambers and temperature-controlled wind tunnels to enable testing and performance evaluation for small capacity systems and components. Testing includes evaluation of individual heat exchangers, compressors, or novel technologies, as well as residential and light commercial air conditioners, heat pumps, and water heaters. We follow ASHRAE/AHRI/ANSI standards as closely as possible, where applicable, but also provide custom tests to meet specific product development needs.

In addition to providing testing, data analysis and technology review, our laboratory also offers prototype development services. In-house technicians work with our thermal engineers to fully design the requested system. Using off-the-shelf components when feasible, and working with outside manufacturing contractors when needed, we assemble the designed system and commission it prior to delivery.

    • Temperature control: 20°F (-7°C) to 112°F (44°C) within +/- 2.0°F (1.0°C)
    • Relative humidity control: 35% - 95%
  • 2. Wind-Tunnels
    • Heat exchanger and split system testing (for indoor unit)
    • Water and/or refrigerant testing
    • Multiple loops available, 2’ x 2’ or 3’ x 3’ face area
    • Up to 5-ton capacity
    • Temperature control: 36°F (2°C) to 95°F (35°C)
    • Air flow: up to 2,000 CFM
